HOW TO STYLE YOUR FAMILY FOR YOUR PHOTO SESSION

Let’s talk about wardrobe!!

 As a mom, I know finding outfits is a daunting and an often overwhelming task when it comes to your family photo session. As a photographer, I know your family’s wardrobe has a significant impact on your images. Here’s my best tips for choosing your family’s outfits for your photo session!

shop weeks in advance

 Waiting until the last minute to go shopping never goes well! As soon as you have a date set for your session, start shopping! This helps if you’re shopping online because if something doesn’t work out, you still have time to send it back and buy something else. OR even buy a few options and return the ones that don’t work out 😉

  Pro tip: shop for YOU first, mama. Pull inspiration for the rest of the family from the outfit you’ve picked out for yourself.

color palette

 When thinking of your color palette, stick to neutral, muted and earthy tones. These photograph best and aren’t distracting in your images. Bright colors are not only distracting but can cause weird casts on your skin and other parts of the image.

Don’t be afraid of texture and patterns! When these are mixed in with the right colors, it’s muah chef’s kiss. (You can see great examples of these in the mood board link below!)

consider your home decor

 Will the colors you choose to dress your family in going to look good on your walls? This is something people normally don’t think about!! Another good reason to stick to more neutral tones. Do you tend to decorate your home in neutral colors? Think about your seasonal decor too! If so, you may be able to add in a little more color. Just remember to keep the colors muted and/or earthy, like the photo below! If you tend to decorate with color, styling your family in neutrals like white, beige, cream, and brown tones is a better fit for you!
